Grey knight terminator captain done

I think that I will drop my brush and not do anything more on this mini. It will be my entry for the Grey knight terminator contest over at the Brush brothers. I´m entering that competition just to improve my painting skill and try to do some better work with TMM. Hope you will like it.
Untill next time, happy painting!

Almost done!

So, I´m starting to see the end of the tunnel with this mini. The closing date for the Grey knight terminator competition at the Brush brother is just a few days away (30th of April). so this will be the last wip on this guy. I think I will focus on the base tonight and figure out a good way to take some photos of him. I have realized that this much silver is really hard to get a pic of without getting the reflexes. Do you have any good trick when taking pics of minis with this much metal on, I´ll be happy to get that!

Gray knight terminator captain wip1

Just a quick wip on the Grey knight terminator captain I plan to enter in the Brush brothers GK competition and it´s also part of a comission I´m currently doing. And with this I call it a night.

Untill next time, good night and happy painting!

Death from above, done!

Last night I finished my entry for the Sverok Painting Challange round 2, the theme was Death from above and I choose to display a lonely guardsman and a Genestealer. There will be more shoots of this entery since I´m really proud of it (it can be the best I have done so far) to bad the pics don´t show it the way it deserves to be shown. I will take some more photos and ask my friend Muffin to make a presentation from my pictures (Muffin, I beg you!). When I show you the final presentation i will tell you a bit about this entery and how it was done (if there is any interest?)

Sverok Painting challange, last wip?

I did some work on my entry for the Sverok Painting challange round 2 last night. I think I´m done, so this my be the last wip on this piece ever! But I have to let my piece sink in a bit to be sure. What do you think?
does anyone have any good tips about taking photos of large pieces? I found out that I don´t have any proper place to be or any good background.
Ok, enough babbeling, here is the pic.

Taking photos isn´t easy

We all know that taking good pictures of your minis isn´t a picnic!  Not only do you have to struggle with lights, camera settings, make sure the camera is totaly still while taking the picture and so on. Today I discovered yet another distraction, my Grots! I have two children aged 4 and 1,5 years old wich I love more than anything else. They also got me develop a sixth sence. Take a look at this picture and you know what I mean, don´t worry no miniatures was harmed during the photo session ( I saved the minis thanks to my sitxh sence).

It´s a top of a Pringles can that my youngest tries to smash into the minis (I suppose I have to learn him the value of minis:P)

Now, to something a bit more sseriously, the pics I wanted to show you. It´s from the first squad of Grey knights painted to TT+- standard.

Grey knights first squad

The first squad of Grey knights is almost done, just some touching up and the weapons left (ok, bases to, but I don´t count that). Here is a quick and probably last WIP- shoot on squad one.

Sverok Painting Challange 2 WIP 2

Nothing fancy yet, just want to get some feedback on the Genestealer that will be part of my entry. I haven´t started to highlight the fleshy parts and the arms and legs need some more contrast, but what do you think, can the colors work? I´m rather pleased with the colors and think they looks great. Still it´s hard to tell before the mini is done, but I´ll give it a try and post it fore some response anyway:)

Untill next time, happy painting!
P.S. One or two paint sessions more and the first Grey knight squad will be done!

Necrotech and Grey knights wip

The progress on my Necrotech is really slow, last night I painted the first layer of paint on his weapon and started on the "tubes" on his side. I will try to make them look like "worms". As for the base I will be adding some more detail, but try not to do "to much", still want a clean look. The shaft for the weapon will be red to contrast the grey mini and base. I think I need some color on the base, not sure what yet. Well it will get to me in time:)

Apart from my Crys who I have put on a bit of hold at the moment are the Grey knights (I will still paint one or two, but I haven´t planned to finish them untill the GK are done are ). The first squad are basecoated and based. The first 4 minis have got there basecoat of silver and "white". Next step is to pick out the red and wash the armour with blue. After that the "real painting" begins:) This is just a qick WIP, showing that the GK get´s their share amount of paint.

And one last thing, I got a small box of paints and stuff from Maelstromgames today, one of the best places to shop paints and goodies from (in my opinion).
Untill next time, happy painting!

Quick WIP on the Grey knights

Just a quick wip on the testmini for the Grey knights. There is still some shading and highligts to do and I haven´t started on the stormbolter and just done a first layer of highligt on the force weapon. Still it gives a hint of what they will look like  when finished.
For the base I think I will go for something brown with a bit of yellow, maybe dead grass, what do you think?

Sverok Painting Challange 2 WIP 1

Since the painting round for Sverok Painting Challange round 2 started last night (actually midnight) I did an hour of painting before bedtime last night. Since my post about my entry I did a base for my minis and now it´s undercoated and with a first layer of paint. Just wanted to show you what I´m plannig to finish untill the 24:th of April. Probably a few day earlier since I will be out of town a few days before closing date.

This will be painted along with the Grey knights I´m currently doing.

Untill next time, happy painting!

Stripping minis

I´m currently in a project of stripping about 50 minis. It´s a lot of paint to remove and such things takes time. So I needed a method that worked, and worked relatively fast. A friend of mine wrote a tutorial about stripping minis and his way proved out to be really good! Actually, it´s working a whole lot better than the other chemicals I have been using. You can find his tutoriall here! Go check it out!

Untill next time, happy painting!

Warmachine and Grey knights

I haven´t painted any Warmachine models for the last past week, but last night I did a few strokes with my brush on my Necrotech (the never ending Necrotech...) He still needs a lot of work but at least now I can visualize how the mini will look when finished.  I stripped his weapon for the second time, I still can get it to look the way I wants, but I´ll give it a third try! Anyway, this is how the Necrotech looks at the moment.

Apart from the Necrotech I have my desk full of Grey knights! As I wrote in last post I got a comission on a Grey knights army, and I have started to paint! I still have to strip about 80% of the army, but while waiting for the chemicals to do their thing I started to paint the other night. I work on a Rhino (this one was alreadyu glued so I could not paint it i pieces as i would have want to, but It will be an experience at least) and one test mini right now. But I will start on the first squad as soon as I got an OK from my client.
First is a pic of the first GK that will be used to test squad markings.

And here is a singel shoot an the one who actually got some paint.

And at last an early shoot of the Rhino. This is still with just the base color and a thin wash of blue followed by starting to mark out the squad marking.

Grey knights!

Today I picked up a batch of Grey knights that I will do as a comission for a fellow wargamer. This will be my first real comission work and I´m really looking forward to get started. The first thing to do is to strip the models and clean them from flesh, mouldlines and to drill out the barrels.
I plan to paint them in batches of five models at a time. I´m not really sure about the bases yet, but time will show.
Pics will follow as the work proceed. But I can tell you that the army includes
1 Landrider
1 Rhino
1 Dreadnought
5 Terminators
30 Grey knights in power armour
and a bunch of models without power armour.
So keep your eyes up for some Grey knights, a basing tutorial and my entry for the Sverok Painting Challange!

Sverok Painting Challange round 2

It look´s like I´m going to enter the Sverok Painting Challange round two after all, since this theme are Death from above I thought that it would be a nice opportunity to paint one of the tyranids from Space hulk that was re-released in 2009. I´m also going to use one of the limited edition wounded Imperial guard from the Preatorian army box. The Preatorian have been in my bit- box for ages and this will be a good opportunity to paint it. I´m going to make a base for the models but I´m not quite sure about how the base will look like. This is a quick shoot (taken with a cell phone) of the models who I will enter in the Sverok Painting Challange round two. Wish me luck!

Untill next time, happy painting!

On my desk

There are mostly Cryx for Warmachine on my desk at the moment. I´m trying to finish a Necrotech, a Nightwretcher and another Mechanithrall (still need to finish the first one...) But I also trying to finish some Orks for Wh40k. I´m doing a Meganob and some Àrd boyz, but a Kannon (using the FW Kill kannon as a regular kannon)and the Killa kans are still waiting for my brush. Pics of the rest of the Orks will come up later.

I was out the other day and collected some basing materials for a tutorial. This is what I mainly will be using.

And...it look´s like I´m allowed to enter round two of the Sverok Painting Challage, so keep you eyes open for Death from above! It will probably be a two model piece...where one part is the the Imperial guards from the Preatorians.

Untill next time, happy painting!

Sverok Painting Challange round 1

I actually won the first round of the Sverok Painting Challange and I got to chose the theme for next round. I chose Death from above for round two.
This was my entry for round one, and since I´m not allowed to participate in round two (because I got to chose the theme) I can just enjoy all the good enteries.

Keep your eyes up for another basing tutorial that will be posted shortly.
